Over 75% of family law cases now have at least one party without representation
The ministry of Justice (MoJ) has released research which shows 76% of family cases now involve at least one party without representation. The statistics show that only 24% of cases involved both parties having legal representation.
This figure has almost halved since the introduction of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders (LASPO) Act, which cut legal aid for family law cases which do not involve domestic violence. Between July and September of 2012 47% of family law cases had legal representation.
Family law cases with both parties without representation have also increased to 28% from 15% before the LASPO Act.
